As a Service for Property Owners, Lovells Township provides Household Waste Disposal and Materials Recycling at two locations within the Township. Property Owners support this Service through a portion of their annual Property Taxes. Property Owners may utilize either location.

LOCATIONS
Transfer & Recycling Center #1 is located on Old 612 (just west of the Township Hall) and Transfer & Recycling Center #2 is located at 8879 E. North Down River Road (just west of McMasters Bridge Road).
HOURS OF OPERATION
Wednesdays: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Sundays: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Closed: Christmas Day and Easter Sunday (Open Monday after Easter 9 AM – 1 PM); Open Mondays from 9 AM – 1 PM on the following weekends: Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
The Transfer & Recycling Centers prohibit the following items:
- Construction Materials
- Medical waste
- Dead animals, fish of any size, or entrails of game or fish
- Beverage containers that require a 10 cent deposit
- Whole motor vehicle tires.
- Yard clippings. Leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, and shrubbery, brush and tree trimmings
- Used oil
- Cans of paint
- Lead acid batteries
- Low-level radioactive waste
- Regulated hazardous waste
- Liquid waste
- Sewage
- PCBs
- Asbestos waste
- Empty drums
- TENORM (Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material)

DUMP PERMITS
Lovells Township Residents may obtain a “Dump Permit” from the Clerk during regular office hours.
Non-Residents may obtain a “Dump Permit” for an annual fee. See Township Clerk for details.
Large Household Items
A Large Item Disposal Ticket and a dump permit are required in
order to dispose of larger household items (chairs, mattresses, etc.) at
either location. Large item tickets can be purchased for $5.00 each at
the Township Hall, Lovells EZ-mart, Kellogg Bridge Grocery or Lovells
Home Center.
With (1) one $5 large item ticket you may dispose of (1) one of the
following: a chair, a table, an end table, any size mattress or box
spring (but ALL sizes need to be cut in half), a TV, a bookcase, a four
drawer or smaller dresser, a toilet or sink.
With (2) two $5 large item tickets you may dispose of (1) one of the
following: a couch, a love seat, a large recliner, a sofa bed (but the
metal frame must be removed), a ceramic tub or hot tub, (but they
must be broken up).
Our Compactor Center Managers have the duty to refuse any load deemed excessive, hazardous, or inappropriate. Truckload quantities such as “clean-outs”, construction materials, etc. are not to be taken to our Compactor Centers. These types of waste can be taken to the Waste Management- WATERS Landfill 11375 Sherman Road, Frederic from 8:00 AM to 3:30PM. They accept non-hazardous waste only and a fee is charged.
Metal Recycling
Lovells Township has an agreement with a scrap metal recycler to collect scrap metals from our Residents. Metal may be dropped off at either the North or South Transfer Center. All metal large appliances are eligible, HOWEVER, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners (include vehicle air conditioners), or any device containing freon coolant gas must have the coolant gas properly removed before drop off.
