The Lovells Township Fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is a volunteer Department supported through the Township budget. The Fire Unit responds to fire emergencies within the Township as well as mutual aid support for the DNR, Camp Grayling, and neighboring Townships. The Medical Service Unit provides first response medical support within the Township. Advanced medical support and ambulance transport is provided through mutual support from Frederic Medical Department and MMR/Grayling.
Fire and EMS response is dispatched through Crawford County 911 service.

Open Burn Permits
Situated in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula, Lovells Township is susceptible to Wildfires throughout the year. Wildfire Potential Indicators are located at Crossroad Park and Kellogg’s Store (North Down River). These Indicators are monitored and updated daily. Additionally, the DNR regulates Open Burning through Burn Permit System. Residents may apply for a burn permit at 989.348.4911 (Non Emergency 911) between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM (seven days a week), 1-866-922-2876 (DNR Burn Permit) orĀ online atĀ www.michigan.gov/burnpermit.
Lastly, local fire authorities may prohibit open burning dependent upon local conditions or situations.
